This module sets out the importance of accountability and transparency to the operation of the APS. As we saw in the previous module, these principles are vital for good governance across agencies and departments. We are accountable to our minister and the government of the day through the framework of ministerial accountability. Our minister and the government of the day are then accountable to the Parliament and the Australian public. Consequently, our procedures, processes and records must be open to scrutiny and review.
More specifically, this module:
explains the importance of accountability to the effective governance and operation of the APS
identifies to whom we are accountable when working in the APS
explains the importance of accurate record keeping to an accountable and transparent APS.
